Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Techniques* Course overviews

Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Techniques (SCAT)* training are 3-day long comprehensive courses that provides a systematic and standard way of:

•  Measuring oiled shores, 
•  Determining the best treatment options, 
•  Applying cleanup constraints to reduce further harm, 
•  Obtaining stakeholder/agency agreement on when a shore is considered clean, and
•  Managing and presenting field data for decision making.  

(*Also referred to as: Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Team)

The courses are designed on international standards established by US National Oceans Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Environment Canada.  

The courses are relevant to both temperate and tropical marine environments, as well as inland (freshwater) environments (see course outlines below).  The courses are applicable to those who will apply SCAT in the field, manage field data, and make decisions on shoreline cleanup measures.  All courses are taught under the Incident Command System approach to emergency management (See ICS Courses).

COURSE COST: $3,500 per class (3-day), plus travel and lodging expenses*.  Budget $25 per student for SCAT manual.   Maximum: class room size is 20 students.  Sponsoring client can seek fees directly from students for cost recovery.  Recommend a mixed classroom of agencies and industry participants.
